My birth name is Cherokee, but when I was in junior high, my best friends bestowed my nickname upon me- Cherry. These days I go by both, but use Cherry professionally.

I was born in Upland, California and only lived there for a few years before being moved to Portland, OR where I lived until I got married in 2004. After that I moved to SW Washington and have lived here ever since. We bought a house up here last year and let me tell you, country life is underrated!

My mom was born and raised in southern California and my dad is full blooded Irish. He immigrated to the USA when he was a young man. I was raised to be creative and unique. My parents always fought to instill independence in me, and boy were they were successful! My mom is the nurturing one and my dad is the tough guy. I would like to think that I have a very even mix of both.

I got my start modeling at car shows in 2005. I would get photographers asking to take pictures and then a few months later I would end up in magazines! Ol' Skool Rodz put me on my first cover in their November 2005 issue. After that I started getting companies asking me to model their clothes and I just kind of went with it.

I am fascinated by old Hollywood and classic glamour. I love cheesecake and old style black and whites. I strive to maintain class and integrity with everything I do. I think that there is a certain something missing from a lot of modern photographs I see, and I am trying to bring back the twinkle. I love working with new people and in new situations and will try anything once. My main inspiration comes from 40's model and actress Carole Landis. I also love Hedy Lamar, Myrna Loy, Rita Hayworth, Maureen O'Hara, and Gene Tierney. Love those red heads and brunettes!

Mostly I just love to live. Every day is a new day to live and a new day to learn. I love meeting people from all walks of life and finding new things to discover. If you see me at a show or event, come say hi! I am nice, I promise! I hope that my site will provide a little pleasure for those that view it. Thanks for visiting...come back soon!

Cherry Dollface

FAQ's

How did you get your name "cherry dollface" ?
Cherry was my nickname through school. I was actually trying to think of a new email address a few years ago and I just thought that Dollface sounded sort of sweet. People just kind of started calling me by that, so I kept it.

Do you have any merch for sale? (like calendars, etc)
Yes I do! On my gallery page, you can by prints of any "Caitlin Gustin" picture I have featured. I am still selling the last of my 2007 Calendars, you can buy that on the gallery page as well.

Do you do burlesque?
I do not. I have no dance experience to speak of, so I would probably look like a fool if I tried. I also don't do any sort of nude modeling or performance, and pasties just aren't my thing. I love burlesque though and have a few great friends who do it well. I respect women who can pull it off.

How many tattoos do you have and which one's are your favorite???

I have more than I can count! I have full sleeves, my chest, my upper back, my lower stomach, the backs of my legs, and behind my ears. I think my favorites are my flat line from my first heart surgery, the stars up the backs of my legs, and the little starbursts behind my ears (they are taken straight from a set of 1950's atomic print china that I have). I think I am pretty much done. For a few years I was really gung ho on getting inked, but now my mind is on other things.

Where do you find your great vintage clothes?
I get asked this one daily! I always have my eyes open for great vintage finds. I shop at estate sales, antique stores, vintage stores, thrift stores, and ebay. I find the greatest steals at antique shops in small towns. There are so many great untapped resources. Ebay is also a fantastic place to find really great pieces, but you have to know your exact measurements and you have to be willing to cough up a little more dough for truly special things.

What kind of hair/makeup products do you use?
I like to experiment and try new products, but there are a few things that I stay true to. John Freida Radiant Red hair products are my favorite. They smell great and are fairly inexpensive. My hair stays brighter so much longer too! Max Factor 2000 Calorie mascara is wonderful. It is the best for lush movie star lashes. For foundation I had a friend get me hooked on Armani cream foundation. For powder I use L'Oreal's True Blend line. It is really the best I have found for fair skin. I just found out that Sephora also makes a nice pressed power in a porcelain tone. I have recently found a new line of nail polish called Finger Paints that make terrific reds. Dior makes the perfect shade of matte red lipstick, and it lasts forever! I love Dove skin care products. Their lotions are light enough and not greasy, but they still smell ultra-feminine. I always make sure to wear sunscreen everyday and I keep SPF30 on my face at all times. I am a firm believer that more expensive products are not always better. I have tried fancy stuff, and I always go back to the drug store for the tried and true. Once I find something I love, I stick to it. Oh, and I am Sephora's #1 fan!

For the girls who may want to get into modeling, what advice do you have for them?
My best advice is to not sacrifice your integrity. Once you get even the smallest start, you will have "agencies" and "photographers" all over you. Do not sign a contract unless you have a lawyer look over it! There are so many agencies that make you sign a contract and then basically own you and steal your profits. Also, there are a lot of sleazy photographers out there. Be safe when going to shoots. Always take someone to a shoot if you don't know the photographer. I think it is best to start with photographers that you know- it makes things a little more relaxed and more fun to experiment. If you are not makeup/hair savvy, look around for a good MUA (makeup artist). Sometimes they will for for trade (TFP) and sometimes they only work paid jobs. The same thing applies for photographers. If you are just starting out, it may be good to find other people just starting out so that you can mutually benefit by starting a portfolio. Just get yourself out there! The internet is a great tool. ModelMayhem.com and RetroKitten.com are great sites to make a portfolio online and get some exposure.

Ok, purely female question.....are you ever going to have a section on how the hell to do some of those hairdos? I've looked everywhere for someone to tell me how....but alas...nothing has come up!!!!
This is another that I get asked all of the time. I have been asked numerous times to post photo tutorials, but I have not and probably will not. I think that hairstyles should be a very unique thing. Not every hairstyle fits every person. Each woman needs to explore and find what is right for her. One day I just started experimenting. I looked through my books of old Hollywood actresses and then I would just try to recreate what I saw. I taught myself how to do a wet set with pin curls (you can buy pin curl clips and setting lotion at any beauty supply store) and that is the basis of most of my hairstyles. It takes a lot of practice, but anyone with enough hair can do it! Just be patient and don't use too much product. I have a particularly hard time because my hair is naturally stick straight and super thick...so if I can do it, anyone can! There are several vintage hair communities on LiveJournal and Myspace that are full of photo tutorials and tips. I have recently begun to see tutorials popping up on YouTube.com as well.

I would like to know....what kind of car do you call your dream car??
My dream car. Hmmm. Well, I have a '59 Galaxie and I love it way too much to dishonor it by pining over others. I have been talking to my husband about building me an old rust bucket just to cruise around in at shows. I am thinking somewhere in the early 30's. My attention has recently been sparked by a beautiful '53 Buick Skylark. I think that is probably my "dream car."

What were you like in high school?
Haha. This is a funny question. I was a brain in school. I was also a drama geek. I designed sets and was the lead in a few plays. I was always the odd one in school. I always had a small group of friends but mostly stuck to myself. I always had funny hair colors and piercings and crazy clothes. I think it was my way of rebelling against mainstream. Being the way I was in high school definitely led to the lifestyle that I lead today. It taught me to be creative and self-reliant.

Do you have a wishlist?

I love to get gifts, but please include your name if you send so I can send you a thank you! I have a wish list set up at Amazon (Amazon wish list). My birthday is June 11 and you can send to the PO Box I have provided on my contacts page.
